Project: Repointing repair and small works
Brief:
- Site Management
- Dismantle existing wooden structure on roof and remove safely from site
- Dismantle existing smoke extractor fan and safely remove from site
- Reinstate circular hole left behind in concrete floor with a suitable structure to enable a flat roof to be installed
- Rake out all areas of defective pointing to 20mm minimum and repoint with a 3:1 mortar mix, achieving colour match
- Re-seat Copping stones around the top of the tower
Result:
All work was completed within 10 working days.
Safety as always was paramount with this request. The weight and height of both the copping stones and extractor fan contributed to the awkwardness of this task, when you take into account the environment of a working Fire station and the location being directly outside the main garage doors removal of the fan had to be managed carefully and was safely completed using ropes through the centre of the tower.
Repointing was carried out utilising a MEWP (cherrypicker) around the 4 faces of the tower, and the copping stones were removed, cleaned and replaced from inside the parapet with the added insurance of the MEWP in attendance operating outside the tower.
